What happens during a free in-home water test

October 30, 2026

Every recommendation we make starts with a test of your water. Here's what to expect when we visit.

Before we arrive

Nothing to prepare. Just let us know whether you're on city water or a private well, and any concerns you have: taste, smell, spots, stains or anything else.

What we test

  • Hardness: the minerals behind spots and scale.
  • Total dissolved solids (TDS): everything dissolved in the water.
  • Chlorine: added by many city water systems; affects taste and smell.
  • pH: whether water is acidic or alkaline.
  • Iron: common in well water; causes orange or brown stains.

What you'll get

We walk you through the results in plain language, right there at your sink, and explain what each one means for your home. If treatment makes sense, we'll show you the options and prices. If your water is fine, we'll tell you that too.

How long it takes

Usually about 30 minutes. There's no cost and no obligation.
